Thinking of moving to Duluth after having lived there for a temporary 6-month gig @ College of St. Scholastica. I really liked the area, despite living 300 miles further south & being there in mid-winter. (Grew up in Michigan.)

I've read that Duluth has 7% more adult men than adult women. This is quite unusual, especially in the Midwest. I've also seen that the county Cloquet is in has more adult men than women. Why is this? I hope it's not because there's a prison there. Usually counties with more adult men than women have a military base, a prison or a monastery located there. (Think St. Cloud/Collegeville, MN for that last one.)

I'm a middle aged woman divorced 2 yrs ago after being married 26 years. Married just once. Haven't been seeing anyone. Kid grown.

It would be nice to find a special someone around Duluth.

Saw your thread title in passing and couldn't pass up this comment. In Alaska, there has historically been an imbalance in the male:female ratio. So up there, the women say "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."

I suspect the same might be said for Duluth also.

Oh $$hit. I've interviewed there and could possibly get an offer. I'm curious, where did you get your data? Here is a bit from the Wikipedia page on Duluth, which states THE OPPOSITE, although from 2000 census.

"In the city, the age distribution of the population shows 21.3% under the age of 18, 16.2% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over there were 89.7 males."

Gender data isn't provided for the 2010 census, although I'm sure it could be googled.

BTW, SanFran also has the same problem, although for a different reason - I constantly got hit on by men in that city (I'm a single guy in early 40s, which probably explains it. I'm straight though). The shortage of available women in their 30s was palpable. It's mostly the early 20s millennial demographics, which, IMHO, can't tell dit from duck. Our world is doomed when they take over.

No, it definitely does not rain men (thank god for that, I say). The data from this site:

Population in 2016: 86,300
Males: 42,552 (49.3%)
Females: 43,748 (50.7%)
Median resident age: 32.6 years
Minnesota median age: 37.9 years
