Hello! We are considering a move from Colorado Springs to Duluth. We have never been to Duluth... but we also moved out to Colorado Springs from NY 10 years without having ever stepped foot in Colorado. We are looking for some acreage in or near Duluth and have a couple goats and chickens. Here are some questions I have for you:

1. Are most people in Duluth on wells or city water?
2. Is there a farming/homesteading culture or an active farmer's market?
3. What are the biggest predators there? (no mountain lions I assume?)
4. How are the mosquitos and humidity? (We are at 7000' feet and live virtually moquite free)
5. How bad are the winters? Is it pretty much just a sheet of ice all winter? How are the roads maintained?
6. How are the property taxes?
7. Do you feel like Duluth is growing fast or slowly?
8. Have you noticed any changes in weather patterns over the last 15+ years?
8. What do you think of when you think of Grand Marais?

Appreciate all your input!!

HI, Number 8, easily one of the top best 10 towns in Minnesota, it is very exciting area to be in.

Hi, Number 8, the last few years, this summer for instance was pretty warm, the winter in the last few years several storms, several of them lots of snow,

Number 7> Duluth is growing. It has several or many reasons why.

Number 6> Kind of high

Number 5> The winters are cold, Not bad, but cold. Several if not many days of below zero with several stretches at -20F and or below that. It is cold but the northland is used to it.

Number 4> Very humid, the skeeters are around, but still not enough to keep out of the woods, they are a fact of life. Still go camping, hiking, photography, outdoor stuff, but they are around for while.

Number 3> Occasionaly a story is heard of a mountain lion sightin, but rare. Duluth has lots of deer, and bears are known to roam in several sections of the city, as well in and near the outskirts in the woods near the city. I personally have had several encounters with them while out hiking even within the city limits.

There are also wolves. Coyotes and fox. Eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey.

Number 2> Not really sure on this one, but would say most have city water, and am sure that there are many who have wells as well. I do know however that there are several, artesian wells within the city. The water from them is very good, and several more just outside and near Duluth.

There is farming, and an active farmers market, as well as lots of weekly in season locations for markets, so there is that as well.
