First off, the quality of education has not increased with the cost. Secondly, people who really shouldn't be going to university, are borrowing to do so instead of pursuing other paths.
This comes back to a failing at the high school level to properly identify students talents, capabilities, and interests, and help prepare them. There needs to be more vocational/tech education for kids who don't belong on a uni path.

I agree. We have many people going to college that should not be there. In many, if not most cases, they spend many years accumulating debt with nothing to show for it at the end. These folks are left with mounting debt that they will struggle to pay off for years to come. They would have been far better served buying something useful like a car. Better yet, they would have been much better off getting experience in the private sector, along with an income.

The reason this is happening is quite simple... It's very easy to get a student loan, and everyone around these young people are telling them to go to college. It's hard to blame the students when they are all being told that they will be a failure without that degree.

There are some other things going on though. Sure, there are vocations that do not require a degree, but how do you get involved? Well, you could start at the bottom at age 18, learn the ropes for the small wages paid, and move up. In many cases though, companies don't want to train. It's an expense, a liability, and a PITA. Besides that, there are plenty of boomers who are holding off on retirement. So, even if the young kid wants to learn, it is not very easy to get that first job. In many cases, they have to attend a vocational school for a period of months, possibly years. Many of these institutions are not cheap either.

For the most part, the job market stinks. New construction used to offer great opportunities for people without a degree. How much of this is going on today? And how many illegals do we have in this country doing that type of work? Basically, the good ol days are long gone. So, without many alternatives, off to college they go. It's a good place to hide cyclically unemployed young adults who do not yet realize the true nature of their struggle.

Besed on your use of grammar and punctuation, it's amazing that you made it in to college. And based on your morals, the rest of us won't miss you here at all. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
