how many fastfood joints does the government have??? of all the fastfod joints (private) how many even offer a retirement????
a private accountant will make 6 figures easily, while a government accountant might only make 75k. the big difference would be one gets a retirement for staying with the same company for 30 years, and the private gets to go from company to company with ever inceasing salaries
just because some writer wrote an article for the usatoday, doesnt mean he didnt put his own slant on it, just because there was an article in the msm doesnt mean it is true either

Exactly what I was saying. This is a really blunt tool for measuring given there are far more professional jobs in government, especially in Federal government.
Cashiers, food prep, dishwasher, laborers, landscaping, housekeeping/maids, farm workers, telemarketers, temp warehouse types, etc. there are millions in these very low paying jobs that aren't common in government that will affect these averages.

There have been some better articles around on this topic, although I am not locating them easily at the moment.
However, occasionally an article comes along that compares salary by position. In those pieces, it is a mixed bag. Some federal jobs pay significantly less, while others more. Overall, they give the appearance that wages are about on par with private sector as a whole, when the type of position is taken into account (and not broad averages that include all workers in a workforce).
There are other problems with the federal workforce that might be easier to deal with. One, wasteful legislation and poorly run agencies. Take the VA. They have been hiring like crazy to cover their backlog of education and compensation claims from vets. Why do they need so many people? The agency is stuck in the 50's, with paper files and archaic IT systems. Essentially, each claim must be worked by hand, even though a decent rules based IT solution would assist or completely handle a lot of these claims. That would clean up the backlog and provide better service, as well as allow a drastically smaller workforce. Other agencies are in the same situation.
If they invested more regularly in keeping their operation modern and efficient, and if there was better communication with lawmakers so new regulations would work in those modern environments, then the workforce could easily be scaled back. Possibly drastically. Which would save a lot more money than a raise freeze, or even modest salary cut. The benefit would be longer lasting too.

naysayers???
so you believe everything the mainstreem media feeds you???
Federal pay increases since 1969 - 428.0%
Private compensation increases since 1969 - 632.3%
Looks like the private sector is underpaid. Guess they might want to consider bringing back unions eh?
