The truth is most of these people were not 'unable' to pay for their homes, it was more like 'unwilling'. Why pay $1800 a month for this when look what we could get now for less? It is going on a lot where I live, along with people not paying their property taxes because their home isn't worth what it was based on. The problem is that banks become less and less sympathetic to those who genuinely do need help, and in the case of taxes, the rest of us end up having to pay more while services are cut.

In my village the teachers at our elementary school are no longer able to put their kids on their health insurance. So we have teachers giving our kids an award winning education, that can't get health insurance for their own kids. That's just wrong in my opinion.

People THINK they need a hugemongo house, when they really don't.

I loved this quote in the Small House Book:
"Entire rooms must be added to accommodate anticipated parties that may never be given and guests that may never arrive. It's not uncommon for a living room to go unused for months between soci...al gatherings."

The bigger your house, the more maintenance, the more utilities. Why???????????? For what???????? It's like those people who spend $300 more on a bigger refrigerator in order to store "on sale" food. $300 is a LOT of 10 cent off discounts if you're hoping to get your money back, nevermind electricity, square footage, and maintenance for the refrigerator.

Gotta love corporate America and their awesome job of convincing us that bigger is better! :-/
