A story as old as time. I've read accounts of spendthrift roman youths cut off by their families for gambling everything away.....turning to the gladiatorial games to try to make money.

I think in most cases this doesn't happen, we just hear the fantastic blow-ups like this one.

My college roomate will eventually inherit millions from his parents farming operation and won't blow it at all.

I guess it was 40 years ago that States began running lotteries. Quite a few of the early "Instant Millionaires" went broke. Now it is such a common event it is not news anymore. What surprises me is he thinks 14 miles is a long way to go for work. I have had very few jobs that are so close to home!
