Since I always do this through H&R Block. Will I need to calculate the math myself or the new numbers if I am submitting a 1099-B form?

Should I attach a copy of 1099-B form?

Is it like filing the tax return all over again?

Turbo tax has a 1040X. If you are doing it yourself, I say you revise the whole return as though you were preparing it for the first time and then attach the IRS Form 1040X as though it is a cover sheet with the numbers filled in.

1040X has to be done on paper only.
I did the originals through H&R Block online.

I have to do the new calculations and calculate if I have a refund or owe? That sounds like a whole lot of work.

Most tax software should allow you to prepare an Amended return where you only have to enter the changes into the system.

Considering that your amended return is being prepared due to a new/updated 1099-B, depending on the type of capital gain/loss involved, you technically have to calculate the entire return again. It won't be a simple matter of just updating the income and looking at the tax tables.

I would try to find an option through H&R Block online to prepare a 1040X using your existing return if you can.

Redo the return online at H&R block as though it is a purely original 1040. then print out the 1040X for from the IRS web site and fill it out in pencil. Copy, sign and mail in.

No online software has an Amended return though.

I only need to fill out part 1 and 2 for Schedule D.
