Interesting article in Canadas Macleans magazine.
So if the USA ups the taxes on the rich i wonder just where they'll all migrate.

They won't be able to stand the cold. They'll winter elsewhere of course. But what is surprising about this article? Nothing. But thanks for posting, will keep that in mind when I rich the 30-mil mark.

The average American going to Canada is going to balk at their tax rates.

For a couple making in the $100k-$150k range they'll be paying, just an estimate, another $10,000-$20,000 more in taxes. For those making more, the jump is even more significant as our top tax rate starts just south of $400k, where as theres is $130k, combined with higher income.

Lower income folks pay more in tax too, but not as much.

Pay is more there, wife's sister moved back and immediately got a part time job at a bakery making $15/hr. She got another part time gig also @ $15/hr. So she's close to $30k within 2 weeks of moving back vs $16,000 in the US at a dead-end job. Rent is around $800 for a decent place.

Everyone contributes more there. And they don't keep fighting wars, draining their economy of needed money. America as a country is messed up, there is really only on candidate that can change history, and he is being completely ignored on TV even after nearly winning the IA straw poll.

Also remember that Canada's "socialist healthcare" system that everyone here decries is rolled into their system of higher taxes. My niece is a doctor who just got a great position in Montreal, can't wait to get the real scoop from her.

At least his unconstitutional individual mandate has a chance of being shot down! Maybe we ought to look a little more into Canada, but apparently they only want the ultra-wealthy retirees.

You're half right. I believe Ottawa's mandate is to replace our aging workforce with renewed urgency. But why the sudden urgency, when our yearly target has been at half-a-million for both permanent and temporary immigrants?
Has our birth rate suddenly tanked to dangerously level?

lots of countries have programs like the one this article talks about, where if you come to the country and invest $x, you get certain tax shelters for a few years. i believe something along these lines was either discussed or implemented as part of our stimulas package also.

And $10-20,000 less in health insurance premiums.

We pay $2400 a year and have health care better than up there (wife is Canadian) but I realize we aren't the typical American. If I was charged $800/month for health care I don't think I would be paying it.
