I don't care as all my drinking water goes through a ceramic filter (Aqua Rain) which takes care of everything except viruses.

how much does the ceramic filter cost? and is it installed on the plumbing or source of your water? or is it a do it yourself type?

It's free standing, gravity fed... There are others like the berky, but I'd rather buy American made. Also the aquarain filters out smaller particulates.

AquaRain Natural Ceramic Carbon Gravity Water Filter System

I only use one element in mine as I live alone.

Fear of water is a symptom of rabies.

If you are on a municipal water system, then it's likely treated to Fed standards which would include some sort of anti-bacterial treatment. Chlorination is pretty standard. So cleaning out your delivery pipe is most likely not needed.

FWIW, you could take your own tap water samples and have them tested for contaminants so you'd know for sure what you are consuming and what treatment might be required to mitigate the water quality.
