Rosalind Brewer becomes first female Sam's Club CEO

BENTONVILLE, Arkansas (AP)
-- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's biggest retailer, said Friday that it has named Rosalind Brewer as CEO of Sam's Club -- the first woman and the first African-American to hold a CEO position at one of the company's business units.

Brewer, 49, is replacing Brian Cornell, 52, who is leaving the company so he can return to the Northeast for family reasons.

Well, they've taken flack for not promoting women and minorities. So I imagine this is a rebuttal to that.

But really, who cares? (besides Rosalind, of course)

I wish her the best.

It's great to see African Americans leading large companies. Slowly but surely things change for the better.

that would be a good thing. It's not like they put her in some "soft" postion like "Diversity Officer".

They made her the CEO of a $48B company. You just don't give out those positions.

why are you being ignorant and hateful?

You very rarely hear about women becoming CEO's, let alone African American women. That's great for the country.

I would like to find some background info on her like when she started with the company, her education, and other things. It's so nice hearing about this when as a woman we are used to hearing about the negatives that effect us in the workplace (harassment, unequal pay, extremely outnumbered in financially lucrative fields of work, etc.)
