its not really hinkey since its due to self employment and i never sent in estimate taxes
ya, I'm in the same boat but I have dependents to claim so the bite isn't as tough. Have you tried using taxact? It's what I use but I know what I can and can't claim so I know I'm not missing anything. You don't pay until you print your return so you can enter the details and see if it comes out the same as H&R figured. I got paid late today by my client so I'm delaying as much as I can to file.
Also, if the IRS see's a problem with the figures on your return they will make any revisions necessary. I forgot to claim the standard deduction the first year it was offered; I didn't know about it and hurried through, and they caught it and I got a lot more money back than I was counting on!
As a general rule steer clear of H&R Block. The IRS will offer a payment plan. Also, with that low an income look at ways of avoiding this next year come file time. If needed to a real tax professional. It might be worthwhile to have someone else look at your taxes. The 3K seem hinkey.
That is what I wondered, too, unless the OP made a lot more last year than he does now and the amount he referred to in the first post is not what he reported last year.
How do you pay 3K on an 18K income? That doesn't make sense to me.
The 18K is adjusted gross income. He apparently did not pay any of the self employment payroll taxes (FICA and Medicare). We do not know how much of what he owes is actually income tax. He may owe penalties for not paying the quarterly estimates, too.
