I've never heard of companies hiring manufacturing workers for less than 40 hours. What companies have been doing over the past 5 years is hiring a core group of employees who generally work 40+ hours a week, and they are expected to work OT during normal conditions. These account for maybe 50% of the workers. The rest are temp workers who work when there's work, and obviously aren't called back if there is no work. I highly doubt this will change with Obummercrap.

You are correct re the manufacturing jobs. Mostly temp workers from temporary agencies and that's been going on for years now.

The office job thing is a new one. Since thanksgiving, I have seen three job postings like this, different companies, different split hours.
