Nobody has been put anywhere; this “crisis” has to weed out the spendthrifts’ from the healthy low/middle/upper-class. Unfortunately, “innocents” will be sweep-in the recalibration process.

SSI has turned into an entitlement program because it needs to feed the chronically over-consuming US economy.

Could you elaborate more on the highlighted? I've heard this before, but no one has ever clarified it.

Man, I haven't received money back from the government in years. I always wind up owing money.

I'm not rich, so I can't play those rich man Romney type games to get refunds back.

I'm not poor enough to be able to claim earned income credit and not middle class enough to own a home and get some type of tax write off for a home purchase.

I'm not entitled to any government subsidies right now either, but I'm not crying like a sap because some are able to.

I'm good. I'd rather do better, but I'm doing pretty well considering things.

This really is very good to know, because my sister and I were looking to purchase some toys and baby clothes recently and for some things (mostly the toys and the walker) they didn't say where they were made. All you saw was a letter followed by a bunch of numbers. Needless to say, we didn't get them. Who knows WHAT that stuff was made with or if they were even built properly (the walker).

I don't think the poor are the scum of the earth. My objection is about many of the programs designed to help them. I think many programs are design to make these people dependent and not more self-sufficient and I believe this is by design. I think liberals want people to be dependent on them and their programs. The more self-sufficient people are, the less they need liberals, decreasing the power of liberals.
The number of people on food stamps and disability has skyrocketed in the last few years. I don't see that as progressive.

the problem is that being poor and minority has taken on an exalted status, a proud victim status.
i was there very poor, homeless, GR, suffered more than many that post here, it was uncomfortable and i got out of it.
did not revel in the status of being poor.
welfare people perma welfare generational welfare, are people that consistently make bad decisions.generational welfare people are people that live a culture of non employment. i will not work and u cant make me.

Also, please understand that ANYTHING the GOVERNMENT has a hand in is a SUBSIDY. This includes MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY. Doesn't matter if you paid into it. If the GOVERNMENT has to GIVE it to you, then it's an ENTITLEMENT PROGRAM. [/quote]

It matters. It really matters that 15% of everything I have ever earned was paid into this system. I have been lucky in health and hard working by nature. Life's choices are half chanced anyway so I look down on no one. My whole life paying in. Don't portray me as having my hand out when it comes to collecting my earned benefits so you can call hard working people what you will.

I used to do home care on someone, and his stinking next door neighbor used to visit, with Social security and a pension, was just that tight with his money. Perhaps part of the smell came from his dumpster diving in the neighborhood! He'd come over mornings to collect used coffee grounds to re-use in his coffee maker!

There are great numbers in our country who are invisible, you'll never see them on the streets, sucking the blood out of this country. I work in a facility where the many invisible reside: Long Term Care Facilities.
Country Club homeless camps if you wish! And if you mistakenly think these facilities only see the elderly, think again!!!

A partial list of those that I've tended to the last 11 years:

Lots of younger obese patients (some as young as 22) as obesity is now considered a disease, eligible for Medicaid! Some of these are so obese, you need extra size, more expensive beds for them!

A whole host of people who are no longer fit to be employed, disabled by excessive use of crack, alcohol, drugs, and one as young as 33, who, depressed over losing his girlfriend, drank himself into a early heart attack, left permanently disabled!

And then you get these clever idiots who will deliberately become disabled (like walking out in front of a slow-moving car on purpose!) and then spend the rest of their lives, problem free, debt free, on Medicaid!

And there's been some gang related shoot-ups, leaving the victims, at young ages, permanently disabled.
Like the young 25 YO man was shot 11 times, now on Medicaid the rest of his life!

And then there's our prisons, another invisible portion of poor you'll never see on the streets!

With mankind, as always, it will be the visible that distresses mankind the most! Seeing a homeless person on the streets can be annoying, but if that persons enters a LTC facility, he's no longer visible, no longer an annoyance, until it starts to effect your pocketbook!

Wow. What a post. Am I the bad Guy because I would rather give to and empower the poor? Its funny to listen to the so called "passionate" folks whom never contributes or donates any time to help the poor. They seem to spend all of their time criticizing successful people.

Dennis Miller said a few weeks ago that, he doesnt mind helping he helpless, but the clueless needs to get it together.

Over 400,000 new people on food stamps this year alone. Do you find that to be great news?

I have came to the conclusion that Government wants citizens on assistance. Makes folks easier to control when you are feeding them.

The borrower is slave to the lender.
