It's funny when Republicans use China as an example of a booming economy, yet they don't look at the fact China is spending a lot of money on their infrastructure, subways, high speed rail and education system.
China will also soon surpass the US in its huighways system and they have barely started.They already have surpased the US in being the largest auto market.Yep in housing ;highway and other transport they have not even scratches the surafce of need.To ne expect when they and India have 1/4 the world's popualtion.They eve have restriction on who gets support in housing i cities and its only people born in a city because of the unequal earnings from nthem worse.They have one industrail area alone that is 12% sq miles of nothig but factories because of problem of tranport and power not be avilable i mnay undeveloped areas. mush as US in the start of the industrial age.
Small wonder China is doing everything lickedy-split, rush-rush-rush to get it all done! There's some black clouds headed their way! A mind-boggling aging population! And when that settles in, they'll be lucky to have enough $$ to repair a pot hole in one of their freeways!
Yeah! I know they're considering giving families the option of having a 2nd child, but when they did a poll, not too long ago, 70% said they wouldn't consider having a 2nd child!
The way I see it, nursing homes scattered from one end of China to the other!
Immigrants? Don't count on it, as the ferility rate is falling all over the world. Yes, the Middle East could be a provider, but you know how the Chinese view Muslims!!!

Well, that's because the economy didn't boom until Deng Xiaoping introduced market reforms. You know, the kind that resulted in the private sector having more power. That's indisputable.
Subways are not really cost effective which is why outside of China few are still built. The rest of the world is mostly going towards light rail or other above ground rail transit or bus rapid transit. Only in places like China where the government can kick landowners out with ease can subways be built quickly and somewhat economically.
