Why are CD rates so low? 1.3% ?

Interest rates on loans are low. This affects CD rates.

2 weeks ago when I looked I saw some 1.8% CD's and today the highest I saw was 1.3%. Does anybody foresee these going back up anytime soon? I would like to get atleast 1.8%

With the fed and the world commited to holding low rates cash is not the place to have been or even be for any serious money.

The fed warned everyone over and over the economy is not doing well and rates will be kept low.

Banks can borrow from the fed at near zero so they certainly would have to be fools to pay depositors much more then that.

I also think by keeping rates low, people will to keep their money in the stock market. The gov't wants to keep the DOW as artificially high as possible to keep the sheep happy.

Nice safe treasury bonds provided awesome capital gains for those who paid attention .

That train may have left the station for the most part but even right up to today various types of bond funds are stll producing gains.

If you thought you were playing it safe by hiding in cash ,surprise!

Historically cash is the riskiest of all asset classes.
