Link: North Carolina lawmakers vote to slash unemployment benefits - Yahoo! News

Everyone raises a stink when taxes are raised on businessess but when benefits are cut to unemployed - no one raises an eyebrow and in turn blame the unemployed for being unemployed

Quote:
It would cut the maximum weekly benefit to $350 from $535 and cap benefits at 12 to 20 weeks, depending on the unemployment rate, instead of the current 26 weeks.

What? This is about state benefits and means those claimants will move to EUC or EB (if offered) much quicker.

Tampaite,
Amazing how many people are totally clueless as to how our
economy works, isn't it?
I can't believe people are happy about this.
I am not even going to comment about this again,
i am just going to see if someone with a little bit of common
sense can get this, without unemployment, YOU will loose Your job.
Consumers are the economy.
If there are no consumers, everyone will loose their jobs.
Consumers are job creators.
Period.
Can anyone comprehend that thought?
So, lets give unemployment benefits to prevent further job loss,
at least for 6 to 8 months.
Give the workers a chance, before they loose their homes, cars,
children, and self worth.
Geeesh!

If this eventually translates to higher crime, more prison/jail beds needed, then it could end up being penny wise/dollar foolish!

It wouldn't be the first time this has happened!

FALSE!
And if tax money isn't STOLEN to give to people NOT TO WORK...

THEN they will GET WORK. Even if they have to grow the economy by cutting grass, starting businesses etc.

Money NOT stolen in taxes means it will be spent by the EARNERS....

Rather than transfered to others.

It's STILL SPENT... or invested. (Which is spent)

Your way just lets people sit on the dole more and more. (And NOT PRODUCE, only spend.)

Talk about clueless...

California doesn't even make the top 5

States that pay highest unemployment insurance compensation

Massachusetts – $939
Rhode Island – $688
Connecticut – $630
New Jersey – $611
Pennsylvania – $581

I'm all for this... People are not inclined to work when they are being given money to live on.. Yes I understand the point on unemployment and feel it's a good idea in the short run but supporting people year after year is not going to motivate them to work.

I've said this before. When the bottom fell out in 2008 a number of my good friends got laid off. Most picked themselves up and were back to work in less than 6 months because they wanted to work. All but one of those guys found jobs paying at LEAST what they were making while a number of them found jobs making MORE.. Then there's the few that didn't mind collecting the governments money and sat on the couch playing XBox and eating pizza until their checks stopped coming in.. All the while they complained about not being able to find a job blah blah blah...

Funny thing is these same guys found jobs pretty quickly when the checks stopped...
