Hm, didn't know this.

$11B left, out of the $60B I read earlier...or $11B total? Or he's donated the bulk of it?

My point is, his absence as a "focal point of money" in the market is going to affect either him or the market. He's not a completely independent force. At least I wouldn't think so....

He has a net worth of $66 Billion (estimated). However, he only owns $11B of Microsoft stock. Most of his money is in company called Cascade Investments... which is a holding company to manage his wealth. He is the chairman.

So they could put in into a huge pile and dive into it like Scrooge McDuck used to do.

I actually feel sorry for Bill Gates and others like him. Money is a pain in the ass!

While I'm not even a pimple on Bill Gate's butt, I inherited some commercial real estate from my parents that the taxman says is worth millions. One property is a shopping center and it's the biggest pain....so much so that I pay people to manage it. It's a big expense but I just can't be bothered dealing with it. I just take whatever is left over and go for a boat ride.

I can't imagine the hassles when you get up in Gate's league!

That being the Key.

Money creates problems, but it also removes/solves them!

And you have the OPTION of selling.

Vs someone who HAS TO go to work tomorrow...

Not to worry, then, car54. If you aren't interested in your property and can't be bothered to pay attention to your money, someone will be along shortly to relieve you of the burden.

Dividends, guys. I cannot believe not a single person has mentioned this yet.

Microsoft currently pays a dividend of $0.23 per share, per quarter. The last SEC Form 4 shows Bill Gates owning about 421 million shares of MSFT. So every 3 months, he is paid $96.8 million in liquid cash. He is hardly short on cash.

Gates has been gradually selling MSFT shares since the early 90s to diversify and transfer to Cascade, which manages his personal fortune and foundation. Besides, the idea that he'd ever want to cash out entirely is laughable - his money is much safer in MSFT than in cash in a basement, and he knows it.
