Maybe the small fry should simply start an oaktonite thread. All those whose upside-down and bass-ackwards posts had been corrected could stop by and bytch about it. It would be the very essense of intellectual maturity.

awe cut him some slack, he may have little actual fact to back up much of his answers as well as being off base from what happens in the real world but he does use such eloquent wording and references you have to give him credit for that.

kind of reminds me of them there west point graduates who never saw a lick of combat but know everything about it until they are in it themselves .then they learn how different things are compared to the laboratory.

LOL! Another candidate for the "Oaktonite has run circles around me!" thread.

Reminds me of what Harry Truman said about economists -- "An economist is someone who has a Phi Beta Kappa key on one end of his watch chain, and nothing on the other end."

After all, he claims to be an "actual economist," although I seriously doubt that he has ever seen a real Phi Beta Kappa key . . .

Out of one's league yet again. Phi Beta Kappa is a national undergraduate honorary for general accomplishment in the liberal arts and sciences. Many economists are not members of Phi Beta Kappa, and many Phi Beta Kappa members know nothing about economics. The international undergraduate and graduate honorary for economics is Omicron Delta Epsilon.

Yes, of course. Harry Truman must have been out of his league when he made the comment, because Oaktonite says so.

Regarding ODE, check their admission requirements: http://www.omicrondeltaepsilon.org/membership.html

By their standards, even I would be an "actual economist." Hmmm . . .

Truman was engaging in homespun humor. Some are apparently naive enough to have taken his words literally.

And here are the stipulations for Phi Beta Kappa. Credit for high school work. Hmmm.

Take it from an actual economist, mere membership in ODE would not make one an actual economist.

Another definition of an "actual economist" is someone who is good with numbers (debatable) but who doesn't have enough personality to function as an accountant. We wouldn't be seeing any of that here, now would we?

Yet another is the observation that the main accomplishment of modern economics is to make astrology look like a rigorous science.

And then there was Truman's wish for one-handed economists -- none of this "on the other hand" kind of stuff for old Harry.

The list goes on, but what the heck - it's all homespun humor.

And about ODE -- it's interesting to note that this so-called "Honor Society" for economists has a chapter at Fayetteville State University, where the 25%/75% SAT scores for incoming freshmen are 370/440 verbal and 390/450 math. Although it's probably difficult for the typical would-be economist to get 12 credits in econ with a B average at a place like that, FSU is quite the academic powerhouse, and a real tribute to the standards of the profession.
