Casinos, bars and liquor stores always see an uptick in economic recessions.
Having working in the Casino business for 15 years, I can tell you that used to be true, but this most recent recession had a huge impact on the casino business. Actually I believe competition had more of an impact than the economy, but it hit around the same time. Atlantic City Casino's had the best year ever in 2006 and every year since then, they have earned less and less. This was around the same time casinos in Philadelphia, Delaware and New York came online. There are only so many people that gamble, and they have been slicing up that market share in ever smaller slices. Build it and they will come isn't working anymore. Las Vegas was hit even harder, than Atlantic City. I don't know why, probably because with the proliferation of casinos, gamblers no longer have to travel to Vegas to get there gambling fix and people didn't have money for vacations.
Aba clinics do great doing this time. I own a couple, and when most parents are jobless, they tend to focus on the kids problems more, and bring them in. Most have public aid insurance, but money is money rich or poor, it just feels awesome knowing your helping a special needs child:-)
