3-10 percent of every dollar Americans spend on health care goes to fraud -- that's as much as $170 billion a year.

Examples of fraud include double billing, billing for a service never rendered, and billing for more complex services to receive higher reimbursement on the part of the provider.

When you go to the doctor, do you look over your bills carefully to make sure none of that is happening?

You can still get a copy of your bill at your doctors office and check it over.

Well, I rarely go to the doctor, so it is really easy to double check each bill. I used one dentist that had very strange billing practices, so I stopped going there. We reported a false bill to the health insurance company, for an office visit $190 - there was no office visit.

Another reason why HSAs are a good idea. The encourage more people to take responsibility for health care costs.

Anyway i thought this was a good article on Forbes Magazine to post about Humana and how they are trying to reform health care within themselves.

For those interested and the article is free to read.

We just pay our co-payment however our insurance provider sends us a statement each month with what's been billed and paid out. I have only found one error thus far which I need to rectify.

I started this thread in Business and Finance (where it should be) and someone moved it over to Heath and Wellness. Now it's a dead thread!

I wish they wouldn't have done that!

Oh, wait, it just moved back to Business and Finance.... thank you forum gods!
