The problem with trades is that it suffers from union protectionism which only allows so many apprentices at one time. And definitely not everyone is cut out for that kind of work. We also allow illegals to flood in to work construction trades for dirt cheap.

The topic reminds me of a local freight truck factory that had 5 openings. There were over 2000 applicants with many from being out of state.

And plus, who the hell wants to work for Wally or Mickie D's anyway? Getting paid minimum wage with a sh*tty work environment just causes more stress and an unhappy worker. Ever notice how those employees generally don't care?

Ok.
So everyone can just move to Texas or Washington and there will be jobs for all of them?

You know most of the jobs "created" in Texas are low paid service jobs right?

Apprentices get paid very little though. I looked into switching careers to surveying and I couldn't afford it. It's like university.

BTW if it wasn't for a limited number of tradesmen, they wouldn't make much money... Supply and demand

This jobs report was very discouraging for our country. We need a government focused on jobs! Let's focus on other things when our economy picks up!

Unfortunately the GOP rejected Obama's jobs bill that included a tax break for hiring new workers. They wanted it to be paid for by layoffs of government workers.

So that's why so many people are moving to TX just so they can work at Mickey D's??

The job situation would be a lot worse if the government had not been expanding rapidly over the past 35 years. The government could lay off thousands of people and still function just fine.

I think the recent government shutdown disproved that.
