What's a "living wage" to person a is probably different for person b because people live in different places with different responsibilities.

The MW issue is overblown, what percentage of the population is the primary breadwinner on MW?

150 Gas >>> use public mass transit, car-pool or find alternative transportation. As a reminder, you are not entitled to your own personal private gasoline supply.

125 Insurance >>> a used vehicle will eliminate the need for full-coverage insurance and reduce your costs.

220 Food >>> buy cheaper cuts of meat and less processed foods. As a reminder, you are not entitled to eat meat 3 meals a day seven days per week.

20 Home Alarm System or Gym membership >>> those are optional...as a reminder, you are not entitled to either.

Looks like the only ones entitled in your world is corporate masters having low wage labor.

There shouldn't be a minimum wage today. IMO it has held DOWN wages more than increased them.

Yes, there was a time and a place for a minimum wage. Just like there was a time and place for unions.

Wrong on both points.

well, that would simply be YOUR opinion. Of course, you have nothing to back that up either.

Setting a minimum wage in today's world simply keeps the bar low. If the market is allowed to determine the wage it will promote competition not simply give every menial job a false baseline of a low wage.

As has been the case for decades upon decades your party's policies, while well meaning, do NOT WORK

The whole tone of this thread shows that you are correct.

People talk about a liveable wage and a minimum wage in the same breath. As if everyone should be able to start their working life on second base, so to speak, and get an annual cost of living increase that allows them to "score" - and get a pension with cost of living increases to boot!

So. I guess you'll be moving to Australia soon, yes? Some information that you may find useful:

Columbus, OH Melbourne Difference Rent Per Month
Apartment (1 bedroom) in City Centre 798.18 $ vs 1,508.32 $ differential... +88.97 %

Apartment (1 bedroom) Outside of Centre 667.80 $ vs 1,213.90 $ .............+81.78 %

Apartment (3 bedrooms) in City Centre 1,420.00 $ vs 2,762.75 $ ............. +94.56 %

Apartment (3 bedrooms) Outside of Centre 1,088.89 $ vs 1,778.37 $........... +63.32 %
Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

In other words, if you are alone you can expect to pay $1508/month for that same apartment that will cost you $798/month in Columbus, OH. And, because I'm a mean ol landlord, if everyone in America got a pay raise to 17$/hour, guess what? I'd be raising the rent.

G'LUCK, MATE!

Enlighten us all. I've given reason as to why the existence of a minimum wage is bad. Not to mention, the facts AND history is on my side. I've made no assumptions.

You've simply stated "you're wrong" and the above snobish drivel. The only erroneous assumptions are the ones you have taken.
