The good thing about the typical conspiracy theory is that it does not require any facts. And also no facts or evidence are ever sufficient to derail a good conspiracy theory.
The current low oil prices are part of an attempt by OPEC to drive prices below production costs of shale oil, and hopefully to bankrupt American oil producers. The American public, of course, is fat, dumb and happy to be getting cheap gas at the service station.

That's just part of the programming Larry... you are being falsely led to believe that OPEC is somehow against and not in cahoots with the other oil producing nations/companies. How do I know this, because the signs are everywhere and the obviousness that if any military power wanted to invade and take the UAE's oil fields they would and could.
The truth is actually the following... everything is now corporate driven in this world of ours and the powers that be are definitely International and own the major Corporations. The Corporations in turn all now own each of the World's Governments. You are in turn owned by the Government of the country you live within. You are thus looked upon as nothing more than a commodity - a willing and programmable slave that produces for the powers that be.

You overestimate the stability of human institutions and the ability of significant numbers of people to cooperate over the long-term.

Thanks to the high energy costs of extraction, shale oil is quite expensive compared to liquid crude oil. There is some question of what the actual cost of production is, but $100/bbl is a number that is bandied about. As the WSJ says, we are about to find out what the American oil industry's true break-even cost is.

Depends on the producer and location of the wells. $100 is way too much in TX, ND.

Geopolitically, cheap oil is good for the US in that it screws over unfriendly countries (Iran, Venezuela, Russia), and exacerbates any financial sanctions we have in place (Iran, Russia).
Economically, the US consumer wins (lower direct car costs, indirect transportation costs of goods). Losers will be folks employed in the more expensive shale regions. But from someone originally from Detroit who has seen the economy explode/implode based on fuel costs, not going to shed tears
