We need, expect, and will demonstrate until we get a workable playing field that allows average Americans some better way of living than part time, low paying, no benefits jobs while CEOs and wealthy people continue to rake in profits from the work citizens do now on the cheap. Salaries today are not keeping up with the prices of food, clothing, rent, and every high cost of living and if you think wealthy people care about your problem of meeting expenses of living, think again.... They are the people that put us where we are today
Because the American people are doing cheap work.
While jobs have been returning after the financial meltdown, they're not the same kind of jobs. They're low skill, low education service sector jobs. No burger flipper is worth $15/hr. Whether people want to admit it or not, those jobs are for uneducated/young workers. They're not long term jobs for anyone that expects more from life.
Honestly, the people put themselves where they are today. You have nobody to blame but yourselves. Your voting allowed unions to become a blip on the radar. You understand the big advantage of unions, right? Wages are higher when they're being set for a group than with individuals where the business can divide and conquer, which is exactly what big business did.
** Side note: I personally would probably never employee unionized workers, but wage equality was a big thing they brought. **
You voted with your dollars. You know all that cheap garbage you buy from places like China? Doing that is what causes jobs to go overseas. If all Americans bought American, stuff would still be made in American. Might cost more, but wages would be higher.

It's really not a blanket statement. The ability is there. It's just fewer people are willing to take the risk and more people increasingly are just expecting their piece of the pie.
Before getting too far into the 1900s, something like 7/10 people were essentially their own contractors. As industry rose, unions grew allowing workers to bargain as as solid block for higher wages. Since unions fell, business has divided and conquered the worker. Don't like what you're being paid? That's fine, someone else will take your job for less pay.
There's no time limit on the process of moving up. It's all up to the individual.

Excessive taxation of the remaining middle class is also a problem. As more people become dependent upon the government (a situation which politicians LOVE) the more they need to bleed dry those who remain employed...........
The best route out of poverty is a job.
This isn't the fault of Congress, it's the fault of the people.
You all keep voting for people who say one thing and do another. Did you know a lot of what government does is typically the opposite of public opinion? Guess who gets voted back into office for another term?

The fact is that even when european countries did have better prosperity than us, nearly half of this country didn't want their lifestyle. And today, lots of european countries, some of which you mentioned, have horrendous unemployement rates. It's even less likely that a typical American would find the European way appealing. They have high taxes but low economic performances and opportunity.
Norway is an exception for their natural resources.
In the next three decades, the world will watch europe become more like the USA today.
If you put all the taxes together with the cost of health insurance here in the states, some of those European countries taxes don't look as scary.
We spend more in public dollars per person for healthcare here in the states than many western european states, and pay for it all over again out of pocket.

This is because we have the fattest, unhealthiest population in the world with little fiscal incentive to stay compliant with their health. And then, once their coronary arteries clog, develop cancer, their limbs fall off and kidneys fail from atherosclerosis secondary to their diabetes, new hip/knee/ankles, demands top of the line care, free of charge, and oh by the way, will sue everyone for delayed, missed diagnoses.
But sure, it's the US healthcare system, and not the US population.

It's not just that. There are many factors, i.e. the cost of medical supplies/devices, cost structures, etc.
The premises that it is unfair for America to have such wealth compared to other third world nations, is Liberalized thinking. Our nation has excelled in leadership, innovation and technology all through our history and we reap the rewards of this. Most other nations are hamstrung because of religion and their forms of government, refusing to break out of what suppresses them. And our success is looked down upon as "unfair?" Liberal thinking always rewards those that because of there own devices are non achievers and penalizes those that are achievers. The other side of the equasion is, since we have become so prosperous we have allowed mega banks and corporations to control our own government which has placed the wealth into a few hands.
We are also the richest country in the developed world; highest real income and richest in government funding by far. Besides which we have low debt in comparison while being by far the biggest consumers.

That was supposed to be satire, I hope. Difficult to tell. I'll assume it was.

I didn't know we all should be equal. Are we all supposed to be white, 6 feet, green eyes, with an IQ of 180, plus all be workaholics.
The equality idea is a sham... stop it already.
