It's called freedom. People are free to take them or not take them. That's what you libs don't understand. You want it both ways. Take away from productive people that provide jobs and a higher standard of living away from all and give it to everyone else especially the unproductive.
Socialism works until you run out of other people's money.
Okay, I want freedom as well. I want the freedom to cut my housing costs by paying my friend $50 a month to pitch a tent in his back yard.
Because he is providing a service in a free market economy. That's the way it works. Should he give it to you free(loader)? You have many other choices..many...
My landlord benefits from government market intervention. My friend would like to let me pitch a tent in his back yard for $50 a month but government makes that illegal.
In other words, government enforces the existence of an ongoing supply of rent slaves, thereby guaranteeing landlords sufficient demand to keep the wealth flowing their way.

Ah, but sometimes socialism works just great.
For example, in many states, rental property is taxed at higher rates than owner-occupied homes. In Michigan, they have a "nonhomestead tax" and the school property tax rate on rental property is four times the rate on owner-occupied homes.
This is pure redistribution from landlords and tenants to homeowners.
And the beauty of it is that as long as there are (a) rent slaves and (b) landlords eager to profit by renting to rent slaves --- ta da! the "other people's money" NEVER runs out!!!

Well, heck, in Michigan you could probably qualify for buying a house. Maybe you should do that!!
Now there's an example of how socialism (unions) really helped that state! Created tons of wealth in Detroit with the union workers sticking it to the owners of the automakers. Wealth for the working folks oozing out of Detroit. Victory for the workers. That's what I like to see. Showed those capitalist pig automaker owners big time!!

The unions were just plain greedy and totally overreached. Like Americans generally, they also were too busy looking at the short-term finances to anticipate (and prepare for) the decline of domestic automaking jobs.
Republicans created the nonhomestead tax when local school taxes were repealed - without it, the Big 3 stockholders would have pocketed a gigantic property tax cut and the homeowner tax cut would have been smaller.
Homeowners were literally bragging about their tax cuts through the next election, while renters got screwed.
A couple examples of how the upper classes make money off the poor:
Section 8 housing. Taxes taken from the middle class, given to the "poor", paid right back into the pockets of landlords.
Food Stamps/EBT. Taxes taken from middle class workers, given to the "poor", spent at grocery stores which enrich the owners (especially Wal-Mart!!!). Stores are also able to charge more (to everyone) since there is no downward pressure on food prices. I've also noticed working class and middle class families trying to save on groceries, while those who receive benefits do not have to think as much about their purchases or how much they're spending.
War. (just in case anyone thought I was a NeoCon and just hates the poor). Taxes taken from the middle class. Delivered straight into the pockets of defense contractors with names such as Northrop Grumman, Lockeheed Martin, KBR, Haliburton, DynCorp., General Dynamics, L3 Communications, etc.
