One thing that baffles the hell out of me when I listen to many people who consider them self's left-leaning is when they talk about the rich and capitalism in a negative way and how the wealthy want every to be poor.

Perhaps I am missing something, but how is it possible to make money of others being poor? How is poverty profitable? How can a rich dude become richer by making someone else poor? Please explain the economics behind this to me.

Compound interest. Make others pay it, while collecting it yourself. Bam. You're rich.

Look at payday loan companies. That is how to make poverty profitable.

And don't forget cheap labor. Keep the pay low, keep the profits high.

Thus forcing the poor to use payday loan companies so they can charge 1,430% annual interest. Then take the profits and buy off the government so that they can continue to run this charade.

The company store is still alive-and-kicking. It just has a different name and a different means of collection. The bad guy in "The Magnificent Seven" sums it up nicely, "If God did not want them sheared, He would not have made them sheep."

It doesn't. A rich person doesn't get richer by making another person poor. That view is the propaganda and emotional response of the political left.

If these loans are so stupid, why not just not take them? You don't HAVE to take loans if you don't want to.

And where will those profits come from? The only reason making people produce stuff for you is profitable is because then you can sell it to others. If the evil capitalists make everybody but them self's poor, who is going to buy the products? Making people produce things for you for 1 buck an hour won't make you any money if there still isn't anybody to buy the product. This is a huge hole in your argument. When people have more money they can buy more stuff, which means companies get to make more money selling more stuff. This means that the kind of nightmare world some people describe where everyone except the ultra rich has anything could not actually exist because the economics behind it don't make sense.

When the choice is "take the payday loan" or "eviction from apartment and homelessness" most people take the loan. Have you been to the United States? It doesn't work like Iceland.

Not completely true, but often so.

I think more than money, the rich get their source of power off of poor people. When you're poor you're more susceptible to financial and emotional manipulation.

Ha! So it's the fault of the Rich that the person had 5 kids from 5 different deadbeats, running up their expenses to a point where they are not just living paycheck TO paycheck....but their finances are so horrible they need a loan on the paycheck they are due next week lol.

That's not the fault of the Rich, that's the fault of bad financial management, people like this don't even have a BANK account for goodness sakes.

To go back to the main topic of the thread and to answer the OP's question, the reason the left pushes this notion is because it's always easier to get people to believe they are a FAILURE in life due to a boogeyman, rather than their own bad choices.

It's just like how the Church blames everything on "The Devil," it makes it easier on the people in the audience to not feel so bad about their STUPID decisions in life because if they do so, they would leave that Church and run to another one that caters to their feelings.

You can't name me one United States bred millionaire or billionaire TODAY (not talking about during slave times), that got RICH off of keeping other people in Poverty. If you can name them, NAME THEM right now.

Or better yet, let's start here with the Forbes list of the richest people in the US: The Richest People in America - Forbes

Tell me who on this list got RICH because they made others poor? The way our Free Market System works, you get Rich in this country by in some form or fashion, enriching the lives of other people around you through either new products, employment, quality of life enhancements, etc.

There's a third choice: plan ahead.
