Out of inevitability. Its like trying to claim that only the rich benefited from computers, or cars, etc.

And....even sheer generosity is not out of the question. Because for many of them the cost will eventually be trivial. If you told Bill gate that for a million dollars he could wipe out malaria...BAM done. Not all the rich are psychopaths. But more importantly the costs will keep dropping until even the poor can afford the tools to boot strap themselves to levels unheard of.

AI that advanced will put an instant end to consumer capitalism. Wealth and power will depend only on the resources (energy and materials) that someone owns. No one will be giving these away.

They certainly don't have to be psychopaths. They simply will be looking out for their own interests like they do now.

Ah, the singularity, the Rapture Of The Nerds. It seems more likely to me that if there is a singularity we would all become like pets.

Dogs: "You know, it worked out OK."

Machines cost more then people OP.

People spend money and thus put money back into the economy. Machines do not save money they make it worst because the economy is not flowing.

That is your grand children dude

I recently bought a machine to replace humans.

It'll pay for itself in less than a year.

It doesn't call out sick. Doesn't need to be fed. Doesn't have lazy days. Doesn't need a raise.

It just works.

Even losing manufacturing jobs, were still the leader in manufacturing. Robots have been being increasingly used for years. Won't stop.

Leaked AI-powered Game Revenue Model Paper Foretells a Dystopian Nightmare

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/t...htmare.240655/

And this is not just games, and it isn't just product marketing. All electronic traffic is being mined and analyzed. If anyone is surprised by how much info can be gleaned from how you play a game, imagine what can be learned from your Facebook activity, internet searches/posting/buying, cell activity, etc.

It isn't just for sales. It's knowing exactly what button to push to get you to respond in the desired fashion. That's power, baby!

Zuckerberg got to be a billionaire by selling your personal data. All those clickbait ads and "we can tell you about yourself from 5 simple questions" ads are nothing but data mining. The way to screw with them is for a bunch of people to share the same account. Let that cute little Hindu gal at the library use your account while you read a book. They will never recover.

Anyone who does not realize that modern business - mostly represented by modern marketing - is driven by deep and invasive data-mining processed by interpretive tools that didn't exist ten years ago (big data) is a gerbil on the superhighway.

Hint: the grocery store doesn't give a good g'dam about your "loyalty" or "membership" or opinion on receipt surveys. The whole sham is to more closely track and correlate your purchases, which they can't do as organically as online sellers can. The data is sold upstream to conglomerates (sometimes as pelf for preferred treatment as a retailer) and data aggregators. It is not about making sure they carry your brand of peanut butter - your every purchase becomes part of an immense and individual data portrait of you. And not for your benefit on any level.

Happy shopping.

This morning on the way to work a co-worker stopped at the new Amazon Go that just opened nearby. From what he tells me of the experience, and the long limes now outside it, this may be the wave of the future. There is some obvious fun and curiosity involved, but apparently people like the idea of whizzing through and then just leaving, without having to wait in line to pay or talk to a cashier. I can see other stores copying this concept when the technology becomes more available.

Yup. Some of my friends have talked about making a road trip just to check it out. Personally....I find it doubtful. I think driver less cars, and amazon 2 hour or less delivery will kill stores like that. But who knows. This is amazon hedging their bets and saying that one way or another they will take over that business segment.
