Travel is a wonderful investment when you are young. Too many people wait until they are old when they cannot enjoy or learn from it as much. Go. See. Do. It will all serve you well for decades. Maybe learn the basics of a language or two as well.

How often is that 42% going on vacation? Yearly, or only every couple of years? What's their average salary, and how are they budgeting it? The statistic on its own is meaningless.

I spend around 10K when I go on vacation. Nothing fancy.

I flew to the Bahamas from the east coast of Florida (Less than 200 miles) and my airfare for 4 was over $1500 (including taxes/fees) and then stayed at Atlantis.....the cheapest part of my trip was the airfare!

I have a MS Excel budget. i have all my living expenses, saving goals and left-over cash.

I put away $800.00 monthly on various accounts ( an emergency fund account, a mutual fund, a roth traditional 401k, vacation account, and walking around money) on top of Employer based 401K. After i pay all my bills (necessities and luxuries) and put money away for savings, i have 1K left-over. I usually just transfer this money to an online savings account so i don't spend it.

All you need to do is budget yourself, i wish i was like this when i was in early 20s. i am 30 now.

we recently scheduled a trip to hawaii. the airfare alone is $1,186 per person. it would be very challenging to try to take a vacation for 4 (one of which we dont have to pay for a plane ticket yet) on less than $1,500.

$1500 is really nothing...but for my wife and I, it's enough.

My Wife and I take mostly road trips and our first one this year was about half that. We may take another shorter one this summer. So we'd be a bit below this average.

Hawaii, not going to happen. Europe not going to happen. A week in either place will cost you 4k-10k.

My vacation plan this year:

Sweden - June business trip but i will have 2 days for myself.
Miami - June
Hawaii - Sept
Miami or Turks and Caicos - Nov.
Please go to Turks over Miami, just for me. That island is on my list to visit!

I'd shoot myself if I couldn't go on vacation at least 3 times a year. It certainly budgeted into the amount of house we decided we could buy - because we needed $x per year for vacations. I got used to the house pretty quick, so that worked out fine.
