Cash in the form of paper and coin helps to reinforce the notion that money has value and permanence.

Something else I just thought of, how are you going to pay friends and family? I have my friends coming over this weekend and chances are we'll order some pizzas and everyone will pitch in some cash. Without cash... I suppose the pizza place would have to run 6 credit cards to charge us for the pizzas.

Or what about when my brother and I split a gift for mom for Christmas? Usually one of us buys it and pays the other half (can't do that with a card).

Someone else mentioned getting rid of checks. I don't use them much, but they are still needed too. The local school when they are doing a fund raiser is either cash or check (and if I buy the mulch they sell and a lot of it, I rather give the kid selling it a check). I think I have to write a check for my dog's license too (there is no credit card option). I used to rent a room in my house, I wasn't about to take a credit card for that. The guy wrote me a check.

A cashless society is a great system in a dictatorship because the government then knows EXACTLY what people are buying and how much it they are getting.

The kids running the lemonade stand down the block do not accept credit cards, only cash. How would I pay them?

I'm not about to throw a credit card into the red Salvation Army buckets.

I can leave a nice cash tip for my server.

I can make that less than $5 purchase without pulling out my card.

My son can get a nice $20 bill from the neighbor when he helps him with something difficult that my neighbor cannot do alone.

I still like my cash. I don't like handing over a credit card in a restaurant while they disappear for a few minutes with it.
I like using cash for small businesses. I always tip in cash.

Much of this suggests we like aiding and abetting the grey or black market. Tipping being a good example. If we wish to institutionalize the rights of service workers to lie about there income it is relatively simple. Just check out the system in the Las Vegas Casinos..

There are already systems in place that allow for things like splitting a check. I have certainly been involved in check splitting via credit cards for the last 40 years.

No one want to start to limit the gray and black market? OK with most of a trilllion dollars in taxes not being paid? Ok with specific industries ripping off the rest of us?

No cash is simple and to the point, it will never go out of fashion or become obsolete. Now no one writes checks unless to pay the rent etc, but not to make small purchases.

Cash will never go out of style, it's like bike riding, always in. Imagine how hard it would be if cash was done away with?

Prefer a world where we could eliminate finances as a whole. Resources are built upon as need be. There is no glitz no glory no glamour. We survive on what we need. Community farming and community building. Science thrives and strives to expand grow and sustain life on earth. Education is free...those willing to learn learn skills to better life of the community. Granted. It a widely approved idea ha!
