Go to China/India and charge them 39.96% tax and they all come back to hire American.
Ooooh..... Noooo..., they are in China and India, we have no jurisdiction.
Tough luck. You don't get to have everything.
People dont see outsourcing/offshoring for what it is, exploitation. You have people in far more dire living conditions who are desperate to feed their families, and we use them as cheap labor. Thats exploitation. First we had slavery, then that was made illegal. We needed to find more cheap labor so we increased immigration and allowed child labor. Then they banned child labor and immigration leveled out and we had WW2 which destroyed other nations' industrial base. This made it reasonable to pay U.S. citizens. Until the global economy picked back up and our labor was expensive compared to the market. So we pushed for automation. That wasnt enough, we need offshoring/outsourcing/insourcing. Thats still not enough....we made 1 employee do the work of two during the economic crisis, this is now the norm. Now we will not backfill the boomers that are retiring. Essentially we will have a small sector of society actually working, and the rest fighting for scraps and living on handouts. Ah Rome....how you will fall.
NAFTA was the direct undermining of the American economy, driving out industry.
This it the fallowing of the UN agenda 21.
If you have never read the Agenda 21 ,do so in it entirety .
I started my career in India, and there are literally millions of Indians who have been lifted into a very comfortable lifestyle thanks to the export of jobs. There is a wide spectrum of jobs being outsourced. In the hi-tech world, a lot of R&D jobs are also moving to Indian design centers.
Yes, there are sweat shops making clothes in some poorer countries. But the issue is far more multi-faceted than just exploitative labor.
We ought to transfer all the CEOs overseas where they will be paid less than the $5,600 per hour they are demanding--and they don't even have a union .
This about this and USA jobs. Perhaps they are mostly obsolete.
America can ship all our low wage jobs out of the country. We can import our mathematicians and scientists. All of our dangerous jobs can be performed by disposable populations, as determined by their people's own governments. There will always be a new disposable population that is cheaper than the previous.
It is a perfect world for American people. We can sit back, take in the profits and not have to do any work. No one in the USA is starving. No one is actually begging for work on the corners. More that half the people in the USA get some sort of government payments. The perfect trickle up economy. We all have healthcare, food, and shelter whether or not we work.
If you want to work, there are places to work. Work really gets in the way of other things. Most people strive for financial independence so we do not have to work. In the USA, we have it as a birthright.

That's great for those in India, but it doesn't help those in the US who've lost a job due to outsourcing.

Yes, however the great majority of the wealth shift has ended up in the pockets of the mega rich. That's why these deals are made.
In the last 35 years the US has built up to a ~$5T/yr relative disparity between incomes and productivity, most of which has ended up in the accounts of some subset of the top 0.01%. Follow the money.
No doubt this transfer has been aided and abetted by well meaning idiots, who only look at the fact that some people in poor countries have also risen out of extreme poverty. That's only an incidental consequence though, just as the depressed US economy is an incidental consequence.

Work is outsourced for two basic reasons...
1) Cheaper to do elsewhere.
2) Better quality/expertise to be had elsewhere.
I believe that most of the outsourcing of jobs to slave wage nations (like India) was done solely for the cost advantage. Anyone who would like to argue otherwise is free to do so. The problem is, we are now dependent on other nations for so much, as a direct result.
American jobs only describes jobs American now do; there is no right to certain jobs in world economy which is much of some peoples thinking problem.
