I know right? It is much easier to debate economics using foolish logic when you can just make up any definition you want for words like "productivity" and "contraction" when you're called out on the latest lie.

Bonus points for constantly making feeble attempts to imply some sort of insider business wisdom.

Tell you what. Go back to academia where you'll get an A+.

The real world of business is not found in any texts or equations. Watch Narcos on Netflix to get an idea of the real world of business. You'll get an A+ here if you can name 100 ways that business leaders cheat, scam, and buy off people to make billions.

You need help. From your link, do you notice how year over year change in retail sales have not gone under the "0" line? That is what would be required for retail to be down at all, much less big time. Retail sales being higher then called "down big time" is something that should only work in richrf's bizarro world of making stuff up as you go along.

Also = I've noticed you're now comfortable with the reliability of government data again since you're referencing in an (granted failed) attempt to support your unsupportable thread. Congrats.

Fail, as usual. The business world uses the same definitions of productivity and contraction, not richrf's pet ones that are employed to escape being caught in yet another fairy tale.

I know many business owners who don't resemble Pablo Escobar.
