Really I find this entire thread obnoxious. If you are eighteen and a citizen of the United States, you may register to vote, and that's the way it should be.
I couldn't agree more. Obnoxious thread, I wouldn't be surprised to see this in the Politics forum but here? I'm a bit shocked.

Yes,homeowners are so responsible that they caused a serious recession in 2008.
Another will hit in a few years,at least it is predicted by some economists.
Renters can be responsible too.
That’s a flawed argument in that many of those homeowners were more than just that, they were speculators who bought out of their league and bought multiple homes they had no business owning. I was in Las Vegas and I remember the taxi driver telling me about the three homes he just bought.
The last recession was due in part to bad loans made to people who should have never qualified. This time around it should be different. The loans made now are much more strict and a lot of people bought cash. But if the recession hits homeowners badly, then we all are in a really bad place.
Why? Because it expresses an opinion that's not yours? What about convicted felons? Obnoxious?
Limiting the voting process only to land owners returns us to a history I would care not to repeat. In general I am of the belief that voting should be as easy as possible and the more citizen's voices that are heard the better over the long term. Attempts to repress that are obnoxious.
OP: I think its a great idea. IF you own property, its an indication that you are or were a productive person. Right now we have a voting population that has a large percentage of people who are not and never have been employed or productive, and yet have an equal say in the government to those who support the government and the economy in general. Once you have a population that thinks that elections are about voting themselves a better standing of living, because the elected officials will increase the free money they get from the govt. the show will soon be over, and that is the path we are on.
That ship has sailed. I think we should just allow people to vote who pay federal income taxes. Problem solved.
