I totally understand the need for Dui laws, but in my opinion AZ has gone to the extreme. I visited my mother in Prescott in 2015, they have an area downtown with bars. When me and my friends left a motorcycle cop started following me immediately. I knew he was behind me yet he says he pulled my over for rolling through a stop sign (which I did not). I blew a . 082 and the nightmare began.

I live in Las Vegas, so I had to go back to court in AZ where I was given a 1600.00 fine, ordered to spend a day in jail, do community service, and spend 380.00 on an online driving course. With all that done I thought I was out of the woods.. But no. I get a letter from my Dmv saying my license is suspended so when I went there they told me AZ has a hold on my license. When I call AZ they informed me that I also have to have an ignition interlock for a year, take another driving course and meet with a counselor.

Like I said, I believe in Dui punishment, but this wasn't extreme or a second offense, I think they go a bit too far.

Don't drink and drive.

I don't think AZ laws are much different than most states.

It is very expensive to get a DUI.

AZ is much more stringent than most states, but it isn't a secret.

If you were really only at .082 then your best bet would to be uncooperative but respectful during the stop and hire a good lawyer

Don't forget, your auto insurance will probably go up, or they may even cancel your policy because now you are a high-risk driver.
I don't know about AZ, but in some states, your insurance company is automatically informed of a DUI.

Too far? You had enough alcohol in your system to TRIPLE the risk of a crash.

Don't drink and drive, then. Pretty simple. They should have thrown you in jail for a couple years for endangering everyone else on the road with your selfishness and disregard for other's well-being.

Sorry, no sympathy for those who drink and drive. I've always thought the penalties in general were far too soft, especially for a first offense. I say "Go AZ"!
