Is there a need to save USA Dollar coins (the big silver ones) and Half Dollar coins? Or is it better to put in jar of coins and then bring to coin counter?

I know of one person who like to save them, so just curious. If I did come across anyone who got it from wherever, they put it into jar of coins.

Hmmmm, how would someone know if its worth any money than the face value of the coin? Where would we go to see its worth, if any?

Any half dollars made after 1970 don't contain silver. I believe that the last time dollar coins made for general circulation contained silver was in 1935.

If you have post-1970 Kennedy half dollars, or dollar coins like Eisenhower (the large ones made in the 70s) or Susan B. Anthony (the ones that look like quarters), they don't contain silver and are generally not worth much more than face value.

Thanks! Will check years. If any half dollar is made before 1970, where would I go to see how much its worth?

I'd probably start with a chart like this, just for an estimate:

Listen to the Old Man from Pawn Stars.

What's his favorite investment?
Silver.
What does he do with any silver object?
Melts it into a bar.
