What hard work in their education and/or career building does a janitor need to get benefits?
Everyone I worked with was a janitor. Some received benefits and 3x higher wages but they all did the same janitorial work.
I was a student and they were not; students were not permitted to work on campus more than 29 hours per week. They were paid for holidays while not having to work, I saw holidays as a lost earning opportunity.
Ah you likely received some sort of financial aid in exchange for the work. You were not a typical full time employee. If you had become one you would have gotten similar benefits. The idea is that a college student likely is still young and somewhat dependant on parents for support and possibly still has some benefits through the parents employer. . If that was not the arrangement then this job and set up was a bad idea.
The magazines destined to get the OP out of poverty(sar)!
For the last umpteen years..
Shrug, all I need is enough space to actually prepare adequate listings for them. As long as I have to meet with a friend on his schedule to get them listed, I'm not going to sell many. Fortunately the prices are still running high so they're actually not losing value collecting dust.

No, I did not receive any financial aid. The student janitors were working as janitors precisely because they weren't getting financial aid. Even so, the pay was $1.00 or so higher than off-campus student minimum wage jobs, so it was better than most of the alternatives.
The house has one really big refrigerator - which has no freezer space at all. There is also a small freezer in another part of the house but that one rarely has available space.
It's pretty clear that we're not getting additional freezer capacity.

But, given the cost of the storage unit you've been paying rent on for years, you're already in the red on these items. You'd have done better tossing them and saving the years worth of rental fees you've paid in hopes that they'll sell someday. And every month you pay that storage fee, you're doubling down on a poor financial decision.
Not all of it is earned; many homeowners have a significant amount of unearned income plus a lot of tax breaks renters don't get.
What unearned INCOME does a homeowner get? Homestead taxes are not earned INCOME, so please enlighten me as to what INCOME I can get as a homeowner.
