The FED!!!??? A private entity operating in the government whose sole responsibility is the stability of the money supply, is given additional regulatory authority to send "SWAT teams" to bust organizations?

Unbridled capitalism will be the whipping boy for the next few years, mark my words.

If the Fed weren't permitted to artificially take rates to nothing instead of letting the market dictate true interest rates, the housing bubble wouldn't have happened.

they need to stop these band aid solutions and go big. Tear the whole system down and start fresh. Get someone with some common sense in charge to over see it all.

Now that we have used the power of the FED to facilitate a buyout, and opened the discount window to investment banks, certainly some regulation is appropriate. The economic markets have changed and evolved as restrictions on banks have eased and unfettered opportunists have shown the way to exposures that should be regulated. I am not sure if the FED that is prepared to do this properly but it does make sense to put the controls in the same place where responsibilities for stable markets reside.

If Wall St always turns to the Fed for money in times of need why shouldn't the Fed start imposing stricter guild lines. When we go to those same banks to borrow money they don't lend it to us unless we have all of our ducks in a row. These Banks and lending institutions need to have their ducks in a row now as well.

While I agree with you 100%, I doubt this will come to pass. Common Sense and being in charge don't go hand in hand!

I think we should scrap the whole system and just make the richest guy King.

Then we give him two weeks to get everything straightened out or we chop off his head, and the heads of all his family and everyone he ever knew.

Then we make the next richest guy King and give him two weeks.

By the time it get to be your turn as King, I promise we won't chop your head off.

Trust me.
