But what is the alternative? To give away all of your lifelong hard-earned money to strangers who are unrelated to you?
Sure, why not?
It can be done to benefit your favorite charity, or to prevent misunderstandings among your children, or to spite your children.

I have read a few articles about all the stickiness of this issue regarding wills and inheritance.
It's a divisive issue.
Wow. That was mean of the parents. Unless there's a good reason for it, like debts that some of the kids owe the parents. So they got their inheritance ahead of time, in a way.
Some people can do that, like Warren Buffet. Even 0.1% of his net worth is a massive fortune to most people.
But most people want to leave their accumulated wealth to their children or closest relatives. It's a family legacy thing.

What people want to do and what's actually the highest good are often two different things. Why should I get money just because I had the right parents? I'm not a terrible person or anything, but there are probably more deserving people or organizations than me.
It's amazing how some siblings expect to get the same across the board even though they have taken loans from their parents, live far away from them and hardly help out in the latter stages, have a bad relationship with the parents, or they are in much better financial stages than their siblings. Greed knows no bounds. The true measure of how money ruins relationships? Just look at some inheritances.
