TAverage wage range for food service workers tops out at around $15/hr. So in one fell swoop, they attempted to create a new floor which is going to weed out the less productive.
"Productivity" has next to nothing to do with things like the restaurant industry, which is yet another sector more governed by fad, whim and chance than any hard factors.
They cited the case of Angelica Kitchen as an example of the impact of the minimum wage hike.
"The pioneering East Village vegan eatery is slated to close on April 7th, after forty years of operation—its owner, Leslie McEachern, said that rising rents and a changing neighborhood led to its demise."

The article says nothing about a wage hike being an issue, and your quote puts that plainly.

Generally I feel I am a logical person and try to view things objectively but if someone is unable to see an unbiased position you cannot have a conversation. It's their outspoken views that become the only facts (to them).

A rise to $15 would be a huge hit to restaurants, who often operate under an hourly minimum far below standard MW because the workers make much of their income from tips.
But then, tipping is an idiotic, out of control system belonging to another age of business and service. Restaurants should pay a market wage, discourage or forbid tipping and set prices like every other business as as consequence.
This is another example of why you can't arbitrarily change one element in a complex economic system. A high minimum wage for service workers should have been accompanied by other changes.
This is why I severely reduced eating out at places that use tipping. At some point, 15% became 20%. Like with this situation, they hire less people due to a MW hike, i just eat out much less often.

Wow. Shocking.
I have a feeling many of these restaurants are "living pay check to pay check". When I got my first job, I made sure that rent would be no more than 20% of my income, and to account for rent increases (let's face it. Rent always goes up, never down). My rent went up 30% over the course of a few years, but I didn't demand my employer raise my salary to match that "or else". Yes, I had less spending money, but I was still able to set aside money each month.
Also, when cost of goods and services they rely on to run their business goes up, do they complain about that? It seems like they make a stink about MW only because they can politicize it. These are also the same types of businesses who'll find ways to nickel and dime you while saying "we need to do this to survive". HINT: businesses have been known to lie.
