PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Washington announced plans on Tuesday for a $200 million investment in communities disproportionately impacted by historic drug possession laws.

The Community Reinvestment Plan aims to address racial, economic and social disparities in the state for people disproportionately impacted by state and federal drug laws, or the “war on drugs,” the Washington State Department of Commerce said.

According to the state, research for the investment plan shows laws and punishments for drug offenses “unjustly targeted” Black, Latino and Indigenous communities in Washington.

Officials said these communities saw mass incarceration and legal financial obligations that exacerbated financial disparities, along with barriers to housing, employment, education and health care.

So, basically reparations for breaking the law?

Maybe if the residents spent their money on economic development instead of illegal drugs, the residents of other areas wouldn't have to subsidize them.

Wow. So you're too stupid to not use drugs, and yet somehow, you're going to be rewarded for that stupidity.

The Democratic Party, rewarding stupidity as a means to build the voting base.

Yup, being treated as victims of a crime or something. Victims of their own stupidity.

So reward the community for creating drug users and addicts? Makes sense, right?

Throwing money at a problem doesn't fix it. What are they going to do, build luxury apartments for them to do drugs inside?

The only solution that nobody to discuss is by invading Mexico to cut off the drug supply, and to have a culture change, bring back morality.

Interesting, well, unless this money is goings towards paying fathers to stop abandoning their children, it might as well be flushed down the toilet.

Drug problems are not solved by money, they are solved by having people not do drugs. No one needs money to tell them that drugs are bad.

I just said in another thread that neither party is interested in admitting that the drug war and prison industrial complex targeted and destroyed urban areas over the past 5-6 decades.

So I guess Democrats in Washington state are finally doing that.

However, I remain very skeptical that these programs under their leadership will bear fruit in a substantial way. Social engineering is what got them into this mess in the first place (LBJ’s Great Society) and doubling down isn’t the answer. But alas, that has been the Democratic Party’s platform in the inner cities since at least the 1980s (as far back as I can recall and was subjected to) - Create commissions/programs, insert your puppets, measure your results after a few years, see that you failed…rinse repeat. No accountability for the money or results and the same folks always end up recycled through onto the next “solution”.

Anytime Democrats use the words "Investing" or "Investment" it means taking hard earned tax dollars from people or going more into debt to throw money away at vote buying social programs and corrupt kickbacks.
