If think you’re confusing automation with AI as that other poster said. I don’t think believing AI is going to eliminate jobs on a massive scale means anyone “has their panties in a bunch”. None of the posts here sound hysterical or panicky to me. I’m not panicking cause I’ll be long retired or dead before the massivity of the scale is really seen. But I believe it’s true. Stephen Hawking predicted within 100 years AI will surpass human intelligence. I don’t think it’s chicken little to put stock in Stephen Hawking and the chairman of IBM over unsubstantiated opinion.

A lot of the factories and warehouses using intelligent machines have been redesigned with tracks and sensors to allow the machines to do the work with minimal human interaction. The most rudimentary type of system that people interact with regularly is a self-service car wash. You drive the car onto the track and it goes through all of the stops and specialized machines do each of the steps in the car washing process. You can probably find a video of an Amazon warehouse where the automated carts move the merchandize to and from shelves. This is a very simple system that uses barcode scanners to read the barcodes on the shelves and the products.

Every single one of your arguments boils down to "ain't never happened, therefore it can't possibly happen" - based on cites from materials either irrelevant or decades out of date. Lengthy cites.

Since you truly believe there are no new situations at play here - whether we saw them last 20 years ago or 25,000 - and that there is nothing new under the sun regarding AI, population, climate shift or economics, why don't you just post "Ditto" from now on and we'll all nod soberly and get back to actual, current, documented trends and anomalies based on current conditions instead of being goshwoggled by what happened back in the late Cretaceous or the Grant administration?
