I guess I’m confused where Jenny says she wants to experience financial freedom so that her lavish spending isn’t a second thought. Unless I am missing something, it doesn’t seem like she is putting enough away to get that freedom anytime soon. She appears to spend as much as she can on the lavish lifestyle. Many of us would be trying to amass investments that pay us a cash flow later.
Without her posting her numbers we’ll never know. But I do wonder if she has financial freedom goals set.
She updated her blog after the article ran because of the inaccuracies and conflict she had with the representation
I'll be close to $90k in 2020 for the full year, but live in a very low cost of living area with low property taxes and no state income tax, so COL adjusted, I may be better off than Jenny. I don't feel "strapped," but it doesn't spend like what people may think. Granted, I bought a townhome late in the summer and still catching up on that.
"Life happens" stuff gets expensive. I've been hit with about $1,200 in auto repairs just this past month. I bought a new storm door for $200 this week. My car will need tires soon and that will probably be $600-$800. I had to terminate my ex's cell contract and that was $400. Six months of car insurance is due this month and that's close to $300. I've spent another $1,000 or so on furnishings and still need more. A lot of these are one-timeish expenses, but it adds up. My iPad cracked a few weeks ago and is not usable, and I just can't justify another one right now.
I live in 1200 sq. ft townhome. I drive a Cherokee. I don't have any animal groomers or "servants." I go to the barbershop for $15 every two or three weeks. I did do a week in Maine this year, along with some weekend trips, but I don't think I've been on a weekend trip since Labor Day weekend. I may do a long weekend in Florida come January.
I'm middle to maybe upper middle class for my local area.
So my previous post that the article was made for sensationalism to get readers is true.
Regardless, even if you look at the content on her website, I don't know any Millennials living like that. I don't know personally know anyone locally with two homes, much less anyone in their 30s. At least from my rural/working class background, she's in the lap of luxury.
