Can't be much of a house for that price. Probably not in the nicest neighborhood.
You can still find nooks of areas which are inexpensive in the U.S
We considered moving to Susanville, CA
See below. With 75k, you can easily get a home. Most likely a fixer upper or a mobile home however, a nice enough home.
We moved 2 hrs away where the homes cost at least 4x that but are still working.I would've quit my current job. Then find a job in Susanville. Not desirable.
Instead we paid $230K on a home in a Tourist Area. Changed my hours to one 48 hr shift tremendously eliminating the commute.
Can someone about age 30 live within 800K until they die at an average age?
Sure. Utilizing food banks, medicaid & public transport. Moreso if your wife works.
Work is not a dirty word. Even a p/t job at minimum wage would make a HUGE difference in the long run.

Where 400 to 800k invested in a 3.5 percent returning account kicks off a lousy 25k that apparently isn’t subject to massive inflation risk. He’ll still be drawing 25k in 40 years...and be just fine!
Ahh, but he said a cd which pays just over 2% so you are giving him too much credit.
Years down the road he will maybe realize he is not as well off as he thinks.
It’s like putting a frog in a pot of water and turning on the heat. The frog doesn’t realize he is doomed as the water slowly reaches boiling.

Instead we paid double+ on a home in a Tourist Area.. I changed my hours to a 48 hr shift to cut down on driving. Commute is 1 hr 45 min each way.

For California, that nice of a mobile for 75k is unheard of.
The rental space is likely close to $600 a mo+
