I believe the difference is even more today. Keep in mind a significant portion of the R&D is to slightly modify drug they already produce to defeat the patent restrictions.
Strange to me drug companies can import their drugs from India, China, Mexico, etc. but it is not safe for individual to do the same.
1–drug companies MAKE their drugs in other countries where cost of labor and lax rules of pollution given them a cheaper overhead than making them in the US would—
They don’t IMPORT them

2–the drug that is sold in Canada or Mexico could be the same one dispensed in the US by the same MFG to various pharmacies at various prices depending on the contracts negotiated

The American consumer basically subsidizes the ability of pharmaceuticals to make a profit because we pay more than other countries for OUR identical drugs...

That is the price of not having a single payer system...
Our costs are so high because other countries’ are not...
We are the ones being gouged to certain extent as the cost of a “free market system”
Yeah sure—so much free market is killing people

Your costs are high because big Pharma gets away with over-charging you. There is no one in your corner fighting to get the price down.

Drugs in Canada are NOT cheaper because you guys pay more. Even the drugs we manufacture ourselves, and import from Europe etc. are cheaper because our federal government makes sure we aren't gouged.

We have this

Are you a consumer?

So. please stop blaming other countries for your own countries issues.

The main problem with buying drugs over seas, the chances of counterfeit drugs increases significantly.
If you can secure a reputable source, then yes I see no problem buying drugs overseas for personal use. Just be aware counterfeit drugs will have inert, sometimes dangerous ingredients with packaging that closely matches the real thing. If purchasing the same drugs overseas, I would bring the empty packaging if possible with you to compare it to what your purchasing. Unfortunately if your purchasing a drug from a generic oversea manufacturer, your not going to have any idea if its counterfeit or not.

That is not so. Less than 10% of prescription drug sales is spent on marketing (2016 about $330 billion sales of prescription drugs and about $30 billion on all marketing costs). The more disturbing number is that 2/3 of marketing costs is spent on direct marketing to doctors.

B. It's a garbage piece. The headline indicates pharma spends more on marketing than research. Then the guts of the piece comingles sales and marketing. That's dishonest fodder for low information types.

So. It's not so!

This would reduce inventory in Canada and that excuse raises prices.
