IRS e-file. Really simple. It does much of the math, auto-fills amounts from various schedules, generates all the forms (which you can edit before submitting them), and you can submit them directly once you're finished.

Filing taxes is pretty simple stuff if you don't have to calc deductions or investments. It's a matter of plugging in the numbers in your W2s and then calculate subtracting the standard deduction and then that's it.

I once did my own taxes on lunch break without any turbotax.

So Turbotax basically want us to pay them $30.00 in order for us to pay IRS $29.00.
I have a problem with that.

Where else can I go and file for free and just pay the 29 bucks I'm owe.

Thank You!

Wait a minute !! You made over $170 K and you are worried about $30 ? no, make that

Let's put it this way...I rather spend 30 bucks on something I want to spend it on.
Our family income has nothing to do with it.

Wow.. what's up with these judgmental posters?
I don't make 170k on my own. Also.. you have no idea what our financial situation is like.

Well.. thanks to those who answered my question without judging me.

Thank You. Maybe I should try it next year.

Not being judgmental at all, just saying that with that kind of income, why would you even sweat a measly $30. Hell, I spent $ 26 tonight at KFC for takeout !

Sometimes you just have to pay these little things to move on with your life.

I used Turbotax for years, then when life got more complicated (own a house out of state, was working in two states for a while), hired a friend who was in the tax business. It costs $200 for him to do our taxes.

It turned out to be money well spent; he finds deductions that we never would have thought of. For example, I didn't realize that visiting my income property in another state was a deductible expense. Duh. Many other examples. Bottom line -- the $200 pays for itself.

That said, obviously if you can spend only $30 and get an accurate and fair tax filing, I'd say go for it!
