URL for those that don't want to go through a Google linkjacker:

https://myfox28columbus.com/news/nation-world/police-dont-fall-for-irs-stimulus-check-scam

Basically, if you get a telephone call from somebody claiming to be with the IRS it's fake as a $1000000 bill. The IR$ will NEVER initiate contact via telephone, EVER, only mail. Conventional wisdom holds that if you have CPI and can snag the calling number, report it to the local coppers, but even then it may be spoofed and you could be reporting some little grandmum a couple counties over who might even have an alibi.

With all the warnings that have been circulating about these scams for the last couple decades or so it's a wonder how this is even still a thing, yet it is. Americans are slow learners.

Check out lesser-known providers that focus on security and end-to-end encryption if you're getting too many email scams i.e. ProtonMail, Posteo and Tutanota to name a few.

I get calls a lot from the "IRS" that leave me a message from some guy with a thick India accent letting me know I am going to jail for something or another if i don't call them back.

You guys need to watch shango066's recent TV repair video posts on Youtube if you want to find out how to deal with telesolicitors and scammers. Trust me. Lezh bloy blimpydoobler waddawazzoop sploybyboimler.

Bottom line: anybody who's a big enough idiot, despite the warnings that have gone around for years about IR$ telephone scams, to get social engineered out of their personal information deserves everything negative they have coming to them. You can't cure stupid.
