Swiss are rather frugal, their savings will carry them thru hard time.
How frugal?
I know one who has never bought a TV set,she is now 74 years old and watch movies on her laptop.
She sew several of her old worn face towels together and use them as rag.
But then no one beats some here in USA,a couple rinse their dental thread and reuse them .
Another will fly from Houston to Chicago, sit around and wait for hours to get on a flight to Atlanta for $25

Switzerland's government and central banks are acting much the same as ours in terms of pump priming efforts.

I don't know but I'd bet the so called, "tax wedge" is greater in CA and NY than Switzerland overall. With the caveat that places like Switzerland tend to have very high fees of various types and styles buried into prices that are in fact taxes but called other things.

It's also important to point out that Switzerland is in the middle of revamping much of its tax structure.
