IIRC, Amex was one of the companies that had to be “saved” by a huge bailout in 2009.

Hmmm, looks like your right. They got 3+ billion. I didn’t open this account until like 2014. Out of principle I guess I should switch. But I won’t because I am lazy and I have gotten great service from AmEx on all dealings with them on both my CC or savings account. I guess my principles only go so far.

I might add that I have accounts with several major brick-and-mortar banks, but I literally have only been to a branch three times in the last five years, at most. Once because I needed a cashiers check, the other two because I had to use a branch ATM to deposit cash. 99% of what I do is online.

I am having a problem with Ally. I started the application process online, but then could not log back in with my user name or password. They say call them and they will reset the user name, but now I am being told that the application user name can't be reset, and because I still have to send them docs (which I can't do because I can't access their secure email through the login), that I just have to send docs some other way (mail or fax) and then wait for approval and then they will give me another logon opportunity in which I will create another user name/password.

This all is really time-consuming and frustrating - and for an online bank, if I can't access them online, it does give cause for concern.

I will call them again today and see if there is any other thing I can do - otherwise, I will have to find another online bank that allows you to hold account in trust (and whose process is not too difficult).
did you try to just reset the password yourself first?

I have been shuttling funds from bank to bank for about ten years, and there have been ZERO problems.

I can't do that because I have to match a user name with SS#, and it keeps coming up wrong.
