Actually, we will never know. Different countries have run their testing different, so direct comparison s are difficult. We also know that the counting of Covid19 deaths is being corrupted by the govt. Hosputal administrators want more people counted as covid deaths because the govt has apparently promised to reimburse hospitals 20% more for care for people who are labled to have died of Covid. Also the CDC has relaxed standards and told Drs anyone who dies can be labled as a covid death, even if the patient died of lung cancer or got run over by a bus, as long as the doctor "feels" that the parient had covid. No test is necessary.

The reason I know its political is because a local doctor has been seriously harrassed by quite a few people because he protested the Wis. governors lockdown. He said he protested because so many cannot get very essential medical treatment for the cancer and heart disease.

Seems like a pretty compelling argument for universal health insurance, doesn't it?

it may help you find the answer if you read this article in "the New Yorker" magazine- May 4/20- comparing West and East Coast meausres taken, its timing and the results.

(Hint: the West Coast did better (flattening the curve) because they acted sooner.
The experts are saying, if the NY was closed just a week earlier- 50 to 80% of people who died would be alive today)

There are also plenty of areas that didn't experience outbreaks that also had large gatherings...Disney World Orlando, FL...Disney Land Orange County, CA. On the other hand, there are areas that became hot spots (Detroit, MI) that did not have any known large gatherings. Again, it will take years of analyzing and reviewing variables to determine why one area was a hotspot and another was not. You cannot provide any evidence that social distancing worked. Sheesh.

This is not the first pandemic virus and it won't be the last; isolation has been a key factor in controlling them before, there's no reason to believe those particular laws of nature would be suspended now.
Antibody studies are showing that signifcantly more people had the virus than initially thought. In addition, a report out of California has moved their first likely death from Covid-19 to February 6. This would show large spread before Social distancing was even thought of. Social distancing was not enacted in most areas until Mid to Late March.

It's hard to spread a virus in a theme park that's been shut down for more than a month in the name of social distancing.

How would you gauge the spread of a virus from a hub like either Disney property without contact tracing? Just as spring break locations and New Orleans at Mardi Gras, people arrive from all over the country (and world) and afterwards return to their distant homes bringing the virus with them rather than staying in the local area. Detroit is a densely populated urban area that does not need a specific event to become a hotbed of viral exchange.

Right. "Large spread before social distancing." So if it wasn't the isolation and the distancing that slowed the spread what could it have been?

The poster was arguing that Mardi Gras was the main reason NOLA had an outbreak. If you read the thread you would understand that.

That is the question. I don't believe anyone who comes out and states "This is the reason for event x,y,z without significant evidence. Are you aware what Science is?
