Of course not! I prefer to use local small businesses whenever possible. In all the smaller towns I've lived in no one has ever rejected cash but they sure have rejected cards if/when some system is down. The last time I used paper money? The last time I went shopping, which happened to be 6/8/20.
There is a pretty large handful of persons who are so irresponsible with their budget that no one will give them a checking account ( debit card) or a credit card. Or else they are hiding their money from liens or child support. They pretty much must use cash.
Just for that reason, it would be nearly impossible to do away with cash
Yesterday my wife joked about a wad of paper bills in her wallet that have been there since March and I realized that I hadn’t touched the $60 in my wallet for at least that long. Is paper money dead?
Curious why. There are plenty of no annual fee credit card that give you rewards.
Capital One Quicksilver is 1.5% cash back for free. If you go through $12,000 a year, you could have an extra $200 in your pocket. Use it for your utilities as well and the number goes up.
We have a small business, and some of our customers pay us in cash. Credit card payments go straight into the bank, of course, and we can deposit checks remotely (we don't get many any more). But when we get cash, it's easier for us just to use it as it is than to take it to the bank and deposit it, then pay for things with a card. That would be extra steps.

She called and asked if we had shopping list since corona has slowed down and I was ready to do it,she said we don't mind doing it,they did it again.
I have always told my family to stash some money because you never know.

Not by a long shot. I use paper money at the gas station and convenience store and for small purchases. I always carry $100 or $200 and I keep a stash in a hidey hole in case I have to pay tradesman. They give nice discounts for cash so they don't have to run it through the business. It's also good for tipping servers at restaurants and the girls that cut my hair at the clip joint. They prefer cash so they can squirrel some of it away before they report it.
Cash is still King.
Long live the King.
