Back to work???? Where are the jobs? Most jobs will never come back again. Last time I checked we were in the middle of a pandemic and new Covid 19 cases are exploding all over US. Some areas are pushing for lockdown again and in some areas bars are closing.

We reopened our economy out of desperation and to avoid total bankruptcy as a country. It is a desperate and pathetic attempt to stay afloat. We are officially a third world country now and Europe is not allowing us to travel and enter EU countries. Our response and handling of Covid 19 is poor at best. Our government response was insufficient mainly because the federal government didn't do much if anything as Trump continued saying it was like the flu, it would go away, and not discouraging those saying it was a hoax.

If our economy was recovering since 2008 we would endure this pandemic and business shutdown much better. It was a lie. There was no real economic recovery, just debt spending and FED manipulations. 20 years of insanity and FED destruction of CAPITALISM.

Good Luck!!!

I’m not surprised at all that you are confused and don’t get the point? Not sure if you are able to get anything right?

The unemployment benefits and $600 supplement are helping keep DEMAND UP rather than cratering as it would with such a spike in unemployment. If one wants to feel the full economic casualty of this downturn immediately end the extra $600. That said, Congress needs to extend $600 and approve another stimulus checks to unemployed Americans. Otherwise things will get really ugly right before election in November.

Good Luck!!!

Explain why the taxpayer should be paying MORE than an unemployed person was making by working.

If this continues the unemployed should be getting 20 to 30% less than they made working. There should be no incentive.

We need to keep up the demand side going otherwise you will experience a real economic downturn right before election in November.

Taxpayers have been bailing out Wall Street and failed indebted Zombie Companies for years.....since 2001. I don’t see many of you complaining about that and Socialism for the Rich only system.

Why should American taxpayers bail out failed and non-essential businesses like Cruise-lines? Don’t you think that money should be given to our unemployed Citizens and low income earners to boost the demand?

They were originally not seeing this dragging out so long evidently ,so they intended to take employees back ... but that did not pan out ...But in any case the paper work started to be requested more and more the last month ....they all may not go forward with the mass layoffs but they must file the paperwork regardless

Cruise lines were specifically denied government money. Do you have some new information that we have not received?

Hyperbole much? The sky is NOT falling! We will get past this just like every other crisis in our history.

How Fed Intervention Saved Carnival
https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-fed...al-11587920400

According to WSJ, the cruise line company was dead in the water when it began looking to borrow billions in high-interest loans. They found a crew of hedge funds (called “the consortium”) willing to offer up $4 billion to $6 billion at “an annual interest rate exceeding 15% and potentially give the lenders a stake in the company.” But when the Fed entered, offering up billions that now included “loans to companies with investment-grade ratings as well as purchases of their bonds,” Carnival, and others, were able to lower those interest rates and grab a ton of taxpayer money by way of lender investment.

UMMM, a whole load of people are going to ride-out that sweet unemployment.....until the bitter end.

600 dollar back-to-work bribe don't cut it.

The pay was more to incentivize people to want to stay home because of the pandemic.

It’s also stimulus. I’m sure the initial idea was a blast of stimulus to ride it out. It’s like preventative maintenance. It’s cheaper in the long run to spend the money upfront than if you let catastrophic failure happen.

But the horse is in the next county now, so closing the gate doesn’t have much use. Our economy is trashed.

This whole unemployment thing was pretty eye opening to me. I was helping my dad who makes 6 figures. My state is capped at $360 a week, which is nothing to people with good jobs. I had no idea it was so low. Even with this so called bonus of $600 extra, it just starts to reach the level of reasonable supplement. It certainly makes me rethink my emergency fund because normal unemployment is basically a mortgage payment.
